Asset Reconstruction Company (India) Limited (ARCIL), incorporated in February 2002 and registered with the Reserve Bank of India in August 2003, is India’s first asset reconstruction company and a pioneer in the securitisation and stressed-asset resolution industry. Its core business is acquiring non-performing and distressed financial assets from banks, NBFCs and other financial institutions and resolving them through restructuring, settlements, enforcement of security under SARFAESI, IBC/NCLT proceedings and sales via DRTs. The company operates across three verticals—corporate loans, SME and other loans, and retail loans—handling both single-asset and portfolio acquisitions, secured and unsecured, and deploying a wide network of collection agents, valuers and legal partners to maximize recoveries. A distinguishing strength is its scale and experience as the first ARC, with a large asset-under-management base and relationships spanning dozens of public and private banks and NBFCs, complemented by newer fee-based initiatives such as Collection-as-a-Service and microfinance-related activities to diversify beyond pure asset purchases. Its principal customers are banks and financial institutions, and its operational approach emphasizes disciplined acquisition, legal and enforcement expertise, and structured resolution strategies to help lenders clean up balance sheets and address the systemic challenge of NPAs while maintaining regulatory compliance and recovery efficiency.
